Kathryn Strangolagalli
Kathryn’s core belief is that every person is valuable and worthy of compassion. Her personal journey led her to earn her Master’s in Clinical Social Work so that she could create space for others to find mental, spiritual, and emotional healing. She has worked with young people and their families within the New York metro area and South Coast, Massachusetts school systems via individual counseling, group therapy, and healthy relationships education. Through community organizing, Kathryn created and implemented youth-led programming funded by the New York Giants, which focused on relationship violence prevention through sports. Kathryn also has experience in ministry leadership including outreach coordination and mentoring young women toward wholeness within the higher education setting.
Kathryn loves how youth inspire her creativity and uses their interests as a counseling tool. She is collaborative and focuses on strengths, valuing positive youth development, cognitive behavioral therapy, and systems theory--helping others understand the influence of society and their environment on daily thinking. Kathryn’s approach is trauma-informed- following the lead of those she serves, while working to undo the power dynamics that are often present in service provider relationships. She values active listening and the sensitivity it takes to build trust. Kathryn sees her role not as a fixer, but as a partner in the journey.
Kathryn is energized by working with young women, athletes, connecting people to resources, the relationship between physical movement and holistic healing, Jesus’ vision for gender and racial justice, self care and burnout/compassion fatigue prevention, group therapy, facilitating workshops, and creating spaces for youth to lead.
For self care, Kathryn can be found baking, eating her way around new places with her awesome husband, enjoying family and friends, nature, and talking about/doing anything gymnastics related (ask her about Adult Gymnastics… yes, it’s a thing!).
