Nurturing every step
School-Based Counseling
At Praxis Integrated Counseling, we understand the challenges families face in accessing essential mental health services. To address this, we have formed strategic partnerships with local school districts to offer school-based counseling services aimed at reducing barriers and creating a supportive environment for students in need. This initiative ensures that students receive consistent clinical and comprehensive care they require conveniently, without disrupting their daily routines.
Our Approach
Praxis Integrated Counseling’s clinical approach is holistic and collaborative, involving various stakeholders in the child’s life. By partnering with the child, their parent/guardian, school administrators, and adjustment counselors, we create a comprehensive support network to address the student’s needs effectively. This ensures the child's well-being is at the center of our services, providing tailored support that considers their unique challenges and strengths. Together, we foster an environment where the child can thrive academically and emotionally.
School-Based Counseling Services
School-based counseling services are designed to offer a secure and nurturing environment where students can engage in one on-one sessions with a professional psychotherapist during school hours. Counseling sessions of 45-60 minutes are scheduled flexibly to address specific needs and challenges, ensuring individualized care. We use a solution-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy model, which includes assessment, treatment planning, skill-building, measurable goal identification, and social-emotional behavioral interventions. Collaboration between the psychotherapist and parent/guardian is crucial; allowing for a comprehensive and coordinated effort to support the student’s well-being beyond school hours.
Referral Process
School personnel (teachers, adjustment and guidance counselors, school psychologists and administrators) can identify a student in need and initiate a referral following insurance verification and verbal or written consent from a parent/guardian.
Following parent/guardian consent, the student’s information is then forwarded to the Praxis school-based coordinator who sends the information to a Praxis intake coordinator
The Praxis intake coordinator initiates the intake process with the parent/guardian to complete the intake process (new client paperwork, insurance verification, and intake session)
Once the intake process is completed the Praxis school-based clinician who will service the student will coordinate a school-based session schedule that is agreeable to the student, student’s parent/guardian and the student’s teacher.
This coordinated effort ensures a seamless process for connecting the child with necessary mental health resources while reducing intrusion on learning time.
